Elon Musk, former White House adviser and Tesla CEO, renewed his attacks on President Trump’s “big, beautiful bill,” condemning the Senate version of the GOP’s sweeping tax package as “utterly insane and destructive.” The updated bill, released Friday by the Senate Budget Committee, includes steeper cuts to clean energy and accelerates the phaseout of electric vehicle tax credits.
“The latest Senate draft bill will destroy millions of jobs… It gives handouts to industries of the past while severely damaging industries of the future,” Musk posted on X.
The bill moves up the termination of EV credits to as early as September, a shift from the House version that allowed up to 180 days post-signing.
Musk also criticized the bill’s projected $5 trillion debt ceiling hike, calling it “madness” and warning it risks “debt slavery.” He shared polling suggesting Republican voters overwhelmingly oppose the bill’s fiscal impact.
Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) echoed Musk’s criticism, tweeting his agreement and vowing continued opposition to the bill’s passage.
