Elon Musk could secure an advisory role in the White House if former President Trump wins the November election, according to The Wall Street Journal. Discussions between the Tesla CEO and Trump have explored ways Musk could provide “formal input” on policies related to the economy and border security, sources told the Journal.
Musk, along with billionaire investor Nelson Peltz, has briefed Trump on a plan to invest in a “data-driven” project aimed at preventing voter fraud. Both Musk and Peltz have also informed Trump about an ongoing influence campaign among elite circles to dissuade influential U.S. business leaders from supporting President Biden, Trump’s main rival for the 2024 election.
Musk, who owns the social media platform X, has been in frequent communication with Trump, discussing topics such as technology, science, and immigration. Despite stating that he will not donate money to the presidential race, Musk aims to leverage his influence across various industries to help Trump defeat Biden.
A Trump campaign official confirmed that Trump “will be the only voice of what role an individual plays in his presidency,” but noted that many technology and innovation leaders are concerned about the impact of Biden’s policies on their industries.
Musk has not yet endorsed any candidate but has criticized Biden on issues including immigration and tariffs. Musk did not respond to the Journal’s request for comment, and The Hill has reached out to X.
