Washington, D.C. — The U.S. Department of Education deleted a pro-Donald Trump social media video Wednesday after viewers pointed out that its apparent attempt to portray the president as powerful unintentionally compared him with Adolf Hitler.
The department posted a 19-second video on X captioned “No one does it like us” with a tiger emoji. It opened with Gary Oldman portraying British Prime Minister Winston Churchill in the 2017 film Darkest Hour, declaring, “You cannot reason with a tiger when your head is in its mouth.” The video then immediately shifted to a montage of Trump raising his fist, pointing and appearing at public events.
The problem was the scene’s context: Churchill is rejecting negotiations with Nazi Germany, and the “tiger” represents Hitler. X users quickly highlighted the apparent historical blunder, and the post received a Community Note explaining the reference.
The department subsequently removed the video from its social media accounts. A spokesperson said an Education Department staffer created the clip using a trending TikTok sound but “did not understand the context of the video.”
The original post drew criticism not only for its unintended comparison but also over why a federal education agency was producing promotional social media content about Trump.
