The Labor Department has reported that the United States economy added 311,000 jobs in February, while the unemployment rate increased to 3.6 percent. Experts had predicted the addition of around 225,000 jobs and the unemployment rate to stay at 3.4 percent, suggesting that the labor market may be improving. Despite the rise in the jobless rate, the gain of 311,000 jobs is higher than expected and could increase pressure on the Federal Reserve to speed up the rate hikes.
