Donald Trump won the Republican presidential nominating caucuses in Nevada and the U.S. Virgin Islands, moving closer to securing his party’s nomination for a potential rematch with President Joe Biden in the upcoming general election. In Nevada, Trump, as the leading candidate, secured the state’s 26 delegates after Edison Research projected him as the winner. This victory followed an earlier win in the U.S. Virgin Islands caucuses, where Trump garnered 74% of the votes, significantly outperforming Nikki Haley, his primary competitor, who received 26% support.
The Nevada caucuses, influenced by the Trump-aligned Nevada Republican Party, underscored Trump’s dominant position within the party. This event took place shortly after a state-run primary, where Haley faced a significant defeat, with a large number of Trump supporters choosing “none of these candidates” over her. Trump’s legal battles and public appearances also continue, notably his challenge to Colorado’s decision to exclude him from the ballot, which the Supreme Court reviewed with apparent skepticism towards Colorado’s stance.
Despite the setbacks, Haley remains determined to continue her campaign, especially in South Carolina, her home state. However, she faces steep challenges, trailing far behind Trump in polls.
