Washington, DC — Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche said Sunday that the Department of Justice is unable to investigate certain tips the FBI received alleging President Donald Trump’s involvement with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, citing a lack of verifiable information.

Appearing on CNN’s “State of the Union,” Blanche told host Dana Bash that many of the tips were anonymous or based on second-hand claims, which he said makes them unsuitable for formal investigation. His comments followed the Justice Department’s release Friday of nearly 3.5 million additional documents connected to the Epstein investigation under the Epstein Files Transparency Act.

The newly released material included tips submitted to the FBI’s National Threat Operations Center that referenced Trump, among other politicians and public figures. Emails between DOJ staff show the information was compiled in August from individuals described as “Trump accusers.” Records indicate that investigators contacted some, but not all, of the tipsters, with several submissions lacking identifying information.

By Sunday morning, the index of tips related to Trump was no longer visible on the DOJ’s public database, prompting questions from outside observers. Blanche said the broader collection of Epstein-related records contains thousands of references to well-known individuals, including more than 1,800 database results tied to Trump’s name, many of which involve correspondence Epstein sent or received rather than allegations of wrongdoing.

The DOJ said Friday that the tips concerning Trump lacked credibility. A spokesperson stated that the document release includes unverified public submissions, some of which contain false or sensational claims, and emphasized that allegations against the president are unfounded.
