More than a dozen Department of Justice (DOJ) prosecutors involved in criminal investigations of President Donald Trump are no longer employed by the agency. These prosecutors, part of special counsel Jack Smith’s team, investigated Trump’s election interference and the retention of classified records at Mar-a-Lago.
The terminations were announced Monday, a week after Trump began his second term as president. Acting Attorney General James McHenry ordered the removals, according to a DOJ official speaking anonymously to the Associated Press.
Trump celebrated his return to office on Truth Social, stating, “There is a bright light over the USA and, indeed, the entire World, ever since the Presidential Election of 2024.”
The affected prosecutors have not been publicly identified, and the DOJ has provided no further comment. This move follows Trump’s ongoing criticism of investigations into his actions during his previous presidency.
