Washington, D.C. — Federal prosecutors have closed an investigation into whether former President Joe Biden or his aides improperly used an autopen device to sign presidential pardons and other official documents.

The probe was handled by the U.S. attorney’s office led by Jeanine Pirro and followed a directive issued by President Donald Trump last year calling for a review of Biden-era executive actions. Investigators examined whether mechanical signature devices may have been used to approve pardons and other decisions without the president’s direct authorization.

According to sources familiar with the matter, prosecutors ended the investigation after determining there was no legal basis to pursue charges. Officials reportedly could not identify a statute that would allow them to bring a case based on the available evidence.

Trump had previously argued that the alleged use of an autopen could undermine the legality of certain executive actions taken during Biden’s presidency. Biden dismissed the claims at the time as a political distraction.

The closed case follows other investigations by Pirro’s office that also failed to produce indictments, including a recent effort to charge several Democratic lawmakers.
