Conservative filmmaker Dinesh D’Souza apologized to Mark Andrews, a man whose blurred image appeared in the 2020 election conspiracy film 2000 Mules, for falsely identifying him as a ballot harvester. D’Souza admitted that surveillance footage in the film was not correlated with cell-phone geolocation data as claimed.

In a statement, D’Souza explained the film’s premise was based on geolocation data reviewed by True the Vote, identifying suspicious patterns of cell phones near multiple dropboxes. However, he acknowledged inaccuracies in linking surveillance videos to this data, leading to false implications.

Mark Andrews, who sued over the depiction, prompted D’Souza to apologize, saying, “I now understand that the surveillance videos used in the film were characterized on the basis of inaccurate information.” D’Souza maintained the film’s broader claim of election fraud but admitted errors in production and editing.

The book distributor for 2000 Mules also apologized earlier this year. D’Souza stated his apology was voluntary, adding, “I am sorry for any harm he believes he and his family has suffered.”
