Democrats are demanding accountability after The Atlantic’s editor-in-chief, Jeffrey Goldberg, was mistakenly included in a Signal group chat where senior Trump administration officials discussed sensitive military operations targeting Houthi rebels in Yemen.

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, Vice President JD Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and others were part of the chat. Goldberg revealed he received operational details, including weapons, targets, and timing, shortly before the U.S. launched strikes on March 15. While Hegseth claimed “nobody was texting war plans,” Goldberg called that “a lie,” noting he purposefully withheld classified information from publication to avoid jeopardizing national security.

The National Security Council confirmed the message chain was real and said it’s investigating how Goldberg was added.

Rep. Seth Moulton (D-Mass.) said the breach showed Hegseth is “a danger to this country.” Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) called it “blatantly illegal,” while Rep. Jim Himes (D-Conn.) warned the leak may have violated national security laws. Lawmakers are urging hearings and further investigation.
