Several Democratic members of Congress were denied entry to the Department of Education on Friday, according to videos and social media posts.
“They are blocking members of Congress… Elon is allowed in and not the people? ILLEGAL,” Rep. Maxwell Frost (D-Fla.) wrote on X, referring to Elon Musk, head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).
The lawmakers sought an emergency meeting with the acting Education secretary after reports that President Donald Trump is considering executive actions to dismantle the department. After receiving no response to their Wednesday night request, they arrived Friday morning.
A department spokesperson said the lawmakers had no scheduled appointments and left after some time. Videos posted by Frost showed armed federal officers at the scene.
Democrats were also denied entry to the EPA on Thursday while attempting to meet with DOGE officials and the EPA administrator.
