Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth reposted a CNN segment on X featuring Pastor Doug Wilson, a Christian nationalist and cofounder of the Communion of Reformed Evangelical Churches (CREC) in Idaho, who has questioned whether women should vote.
In the segment, Wilson advocates for a Christian nation and rejects women serving in military leadership or high-profile combat roles. Fellow pastors Toby Sumpter and Jared Longshore express support for voting by household and repealing the 19th Amendment. Parishioner Amy Prince affirms that she submits to her husband’s leadership at home.
Hegseth has voiced similar views, stating in December 2024 that women should not serve in combat roles, arguing it has not improved military effectiveness. The CNN report also shows Hegseth attending a service at Wilson’s church.
The repost comes amid the Trump administration’s push to counter perceived “anti-Christian” bias in government, including a February executive order and the creation of a White House Faith Office led by Rev. Paula White. Hegseth has also initiated monthly prayer services at the Pentagon.
