Former Gov. Andrew Cuomo leads a hypothetical Democratic mayoral field with 32% support, despite high unfavorable ratings, according to a poll commissioned by Progressives for Democracy in America. Current Mayor Eric Adams trails at 6%, with 71% of respondents viewing him negatively amid legal troubles and declining public support.

The ranked-choice poll showed Cuomo reaching 50% by the fifth round, with Scott Stringer (16%) and Brad Lander (14%) trailing. Cuomo’s lead stems from name recognition, but his history of scandals, including sexual harassment allegations and controversies during the pandemic, remains a vulnerability.

Adams faces challenges from overlapping voter bases with Cuomo and diminished resources due to legal issues and denied campaign funds. Despite this, Adams emphasized his accomplishments, including economic recovery and public safety, in defending his record.
