A federal appeals court ruled in favor of the Justice Department on Friday, upholding a law that could ban TikTok in the U.S. unless its parent company, ByteDance, sells the platform by January 19. The U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit denied TikTok’s request to review the legislation.
TikTok and ByteDance had filed a lawsuit in May, arguing the law infringes on free speech, as TikTok serves over half of the U.S. population.
