The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) estimates that the Senate’s version of President Trump’s reconciliation package would add nearly $3.3 trillion to federal deficits over the next decade, half a trillion more than the House-passed version. The CBO also projects the Senate bill would result in 12 million more uninsured Americans by 2034 due to changes to Medicaid and the Affordable Care Act.

The House version, passed in May, was projected to increase the number of uninsured by 10.8 million and add $2.8 trillion to deficits.

Republican lawmakers have challenged the CBO’s numbers, while White House economists claim the legislation would reduce the deficit, a position not widely supported by other fiscal models.

The bill, part of Trump’s “big, beautiful bill,” includes steep Medicaid cuts, new work requirements, and tax reductions that critics argue disproportionately benefit wealthier Americans. A final Senate vote is expected as soon as Monday.
