The Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) criticized President Trump for blaming diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) policies for the fatal plane crash near Washington, D.C. The CBC expressed condolences to victims’ families and denounced Trump’s remarks as “disgusting and disgraceful.”
Trump alleged that DEI hiring practices in the FAA led to the crash, though no evidence supports the claim. When questioned, he responded, “Because I have common sense.” Civil rights leaders, including Rev. Al Sharpton and NAACP President Derrick Johnson, condemned Trump’s comments as divisive and inappropriate during a time of mourning.
Even some Republicans distanced themselves from Trump’s claims. Sen. Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) called the tragedy “human error” and questioned why DEI would be blamed. Investigations into the cause of the crash are ongoing.
