Interior Secretary Doug Burgum said Saturday he “certainly” believes there is space on Mount Rushmore for President Donald Trump’s likeness.
Speaking on Lara Trump’s Fox News show My View with Lara Trump, Burgum was asked about the possibility of adding Trump’s face to the South Dakota monument. “Well, they certainly have room for it there,” he responded.
Burgum’s remarks follow a recent executive order by President Trump granting him the authority to evaluate whether statues and monuments removed during the Biden administration distort American history.
Mount Rushmore, managed by the National Park Service under the Interior Department, features the carved faces of Presidents George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt, and Abraham Lincoln.
The topic of adding Trump has circulated for years. Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-Fla.) introduced legislation to add Trump to the monument shortly after his second term began, and several Fox News commentators have expressed support.
Burgum also noted upcoming July 4 celebrations at Mount Rushmore and across the country for the U.S. semiquincentennial in 2026.
