Sen. Michael Bennet (D-Colo.) on Sunday accused Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard and CIA Director John Ratcliffe of lying to Congress about the contents of a Signal group chat where top Trump administration officials discussed a military operation in Yemen.
“I think they lied repeatedly to our committee and to the House committee,” Bennet said on NBC’s Meet the Press, disputing their testimony that no classified material was shared. “If this material was not classified, nothing I’ve ever heard as a member of the Senate Intelligence Committee is.”
Earlier in the week, Bennet criticized the incident as “sloppiness” and “an embarrassment,” accusing Trump’s administration of disrespecting intelligence professionals. Senate Intelligence Chair Mark Warner also condemned the episode, citing risks from foreign adversaries attempting to breach encrypted systems.
In his NBC interview, Bennet emphasized the need for nonpartisan, truthful intelligence leadership. “We need them to tell the truth to the American people,” he said.
