Attorney General Pam Bondi sold between $1 million and $5 million worth of Trump Media stock on April 2 — the same day President Trump unveiled steep new tariffs in a press conference that sent the stock market tumbling, ProPublica reports. Trump Media, which owns Truth Social, dropped 13% in the days following before rebounding.
Bondi’s disclosures do not reveal the exact time of her trades or the prices at which the shares and warrants were sold, raising questions about whether she acted on nonpublic information ahead of the tariff announcement. The trades could fall into a legal gray area of insider trading, though enforcement against officials is notoriously difficult under current law.
Bondi, a former consultant for Digital World Acquisition Corp. (DWAC), which merged with Trump Media, was required under her ethics agreement to divest her holdings by early May. Her sale came one day after Trump Media filed a shareholder disclosure with the SEC.
The Justice Department has not responded to requests for comment.
