Former national security adviser John Bolton argued that President-elect Trump’s Cabinet nominees, Tulsi Gabbard for director of national intelligence and Matt Gaetz for attorney general, should be investigated by the FBI before Senate confirmation. Speaking on NewsNation’s “The Hill,” Bolton suggested that investigating these nominees would demonstrate U.S. commitment to national security, especially against China.
Bolton cited past statements by Gabbard that he claims align with Russian propaganda, labeling her a “serious threat” to national security. He described the nominations of Gabbard and Gaetz as “the worst Cabinet appointments in recent American history,” criticizing Trump’s choice of Gabbard as a signal of disinterest in serious intelligence efforts. He highlighted her past criticism of Trump’s order to assassinate Iranian general Qassem Soleimani, questioning her suitability for overseeing U.S. intelligence.
