At the G20 summit in Rio de Janeiro, a major agreement was reached to establish a global alliance against poverty and hunger, spearheaded by Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. The initiative has secured support from 82 countries, more than 50 international organizations, and groups like the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
President Biden announced a $4 billion investment through the World Bank, part of which will fund the alliance. A shared database of donors and best practices is a core feature of the plan, aiming to improve collaboration and efficiency in addressing poverty. The alliance aligns with the UN’s 2030 goals to eradicate hunger worldwide.
Lula emphasized that by pooling resources, the initiative will strengthen international recommendations, public policies, and financing strategies, achieving greater impact than fragmented efforts.
