The Biden campaign launched a major push on Monday to mark two years since the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, releasing a video in which President Biden criticizes former President Trump’s role in ending the landmark decision. “Here’s what Donald Trump says about your freedom: ‘After 50 years of failure with nobody coming even close, I was able to kill Roe v. Wade,'” Biden quotes from a May 2023 Truth Social post by Trump.
In the 45-second video, Biden underscores the impact of Trump’s Supreme Court picks, stating, “Decades of progress shattered just because the last guy got four years in the White House.” He warns that Republicans may further target birth control, IVF treatment, and pursue a nationwide abortion ban.
“We’re up against extremism,” Biden asserts. “Send me back to the White House, and I’ll fight like hell to restore Roe v. Wade and protect American freedom.”
Reproductive rights have become a central issue since the Supreme Court’s conservative majority ended Roe v. Wade, with varied responses from states. Trump has claimed credit for the decision but remains non-committal on a federal abortion limit.
The Biden campaign blames Trump for restrictive state abortion laws and plans to use this anniversary to spotlight the issue, with Vice President Harris set to address it in Maryland and Arizona.
