The Biden campaign has condemned former President Donald Trump for his past comments that seemingly praised Adolf Hitler, labeling these remarks as “disgraceful but wholly unsurprising.” This strong rebuke follows a CNN report detailing former Trump chief of staff John Kelly’s account of conversations with Trump, wherein he allegedly commended Hitler for doing “some good things.” The Biden campaign’s response emphasizes the inappropriateness of any positive acknowledgment of Hitler’s actions, reflecting broader concerns about Trump’s admiration for authoritarian leaders.
Senior Rapid Response spokesperson Sarafina Chitika highlighted the issue’s gravity, stating that the campaign represents the majority view in condemning Hitler’s actions unequivocally. Trump’s history of controversial statements, including lauding various authoritarian figures such as Vladimir Putin, Viktor Orbán, and Kim Jong Un, further compounds the criticism.
The campaign also pointed to Trump’s recent meeting with Orbán, critiquing the Hungarian leader’s record on democracy and human rights, and drawing parallels with Trump’s own conduct and associations.
