Former White House strategist Steve Bannon warned Friday that the Trump administration’s handling of the Jeffrey Epstein investigation could cost Republicans control of Congress in 2026. Speaking on his War Room podcast, Bannon said, “If we lose 10% of the MAGA movement right now… we’re gonna lose 40 seats in ’26. We’re gonna lose the president.”
Bannon’s remarks follow the Justice Department and FBI’s release of a memo earlier this week concluding that Epstein died by suicide and never maintained a client list, undermining years of speculation among conspiracy theorists.
Attorney General Pam Bondi has faced backlash after previously hinting at possessing explosive evidence. Critics, including Megyn Kelly, say Bondi misled Trump allies with underwhelming “Epstein Files” binders. “[They] were humiliated… There was no scoop,” Kelly said.
White House officials, including President Donald Trump, continue to defend Bondi, while FBI Director Dan Bongino reportedly considered resignation after internal clashes.
Democrats are eyeing the Republican disarray, alongside backlash over recent spending cuts, as an opportunity to reclaim House and Senate seats in 2026.
