The U.S. Army has suspended Col. Sheyla Baez Ramirez, the first female Garrison Commander at Fort McCoy, Wisconsin, just days after portraits of President Trump, Vice President Vance, and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth were found turned backward on a chain-of-command wall.
The suspension, effective April 18, was confirmed by the U.S. Army Reserve, which emphasized the move was for “administrative reasons” and not related to misconduct. The Army added that Baez Ramirez did not order or support the photo reversal and that the portraits were restored once the issue was flagged.
A Department of Defense post on X earlier this month highlighted the incident, saying, “WE FIXED IT,” and noted that an investigation was underway.
Baez Ramirez, who began her command at Fort McCoy in July 2024, previously served in Army intelligence and has over two decades of military service.
