An armed man claiming to be law enforcement was detained near State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona, ahead of Sunday’s memorial service for slain conservative activist Charlie Kirk. Local police and the U.S. Secret Service said the man was acting suspiciously and falsely identified himself as law enforcement.

“The individual is not a member of authorized law enforcement working the event,” the Secret Service told NewsNation, adding that the case is under investigation. Authorities suggested the man may have been charged by the Arizona Department of Public Safety, though his custody status is unclear.

The memorial, designated a Special Event Assessment Rating (SEAR) Level 1, will feature security comparable to the Super Bowl. President Trump, Vice President Vance, and other officials are expected to speak before a crowd that could reach 63,000. Federal authorities confirmed they are monitoring “several threats of unknown credibility” related to the service.

Kirk, 31, co-founder of Turning Point USA, was shot and killed last week while speaking at Utah Valley University. The suspect, 22-year-old Tyler Robinson, has been charged with aggravated murder, and Utah prosecutors are seeking the death penalty.
