The Arizona Republican Party has chosen state Sen. Jake Hoffman, recently indicted for his role in attempting to overturn President Joe Biden’s 2020 victory in Arizona, as a national committeeman for the Republican National Committee (RNC). Hoffman, along with former state Rep. Liz Harris, who faced expulsion for questioning Biden’s win, will represent Arizona within the RNC.

In a statement, Hoffman expressed gratitude for his election, emphasizing the importance of the RNC’s role in supporting grassroots Republicans who oppose what he referred to as “Democratic Fascists.” Notably, Hoffman was one of the “alternate electors” involved in the controversial January 5, 2021, letter urging Vice President Mike Pence to delay the counting of Arizona’s electors.

The charges against Hoffman and others accused of involvement in the scheme were announced by Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes. The defendants allegedly aimed to sway Vice President Pence to reject certified Biden-Harris electors’ votes, regardless of legal challenges.

Liz Harris, the other national committeewoman selected by the Arizona GOP, had previously invited an election denier to testify during a televised legislative hearing. The witness made unsubstantiated claims about a Mexican drug cartel’s influence on Arizona elections and alleged control by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints over government agencies.
