Andrew Yang says he has reached out to Elon Musk in hopes of collaborating on a new political party, following Musk’s public fallout with Donald Trump over the “big, beautiful bill.” In an interview with Politico Magazine published Saturday, Yang said mutual friends agree Musk has the potential to help launch a viable third-party alternative.
“We have been of the opinion that America needed a new political party for a number of years,” said Yang, founder of the Forward Party. “Waiting another 24 hours is nothing.”
Musk recently floated the idea of “The America Party” after rejecting the GOP-led spending package, which he said undermines the efficiency work he did with the Department of Government Efficiency.
Yang believes the timing is right: “Independents are the fastest-growing political movement in the U.S. They feel like neither party represents them.”
Musk, once a major GOP donor, has previously supported Democratic figures, including Yang and Barack Obama. Now that he’s distanced himself from Trump, political outsiders are eyeing his influence and wealth as a launching pad for a new political force.
