The Trump administration is deploying 200 Marines to Florida to support Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in its expanded deportation efforts, the U.S. military announced Thursday. The troops, from Marine Wing Support Squadron 272 in North Carolina, will provide logistical and administrative support but will not directly interact with detainees, according to U.S. Northern Command.

This is the “first wave” of deployments, with more troops expected to assist ICE operations in Louisiana and Texas. The move follows a May request from Homeland Security, approved by Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, to deploy up to 700 personnel nationwide.

Trump’s second-term immigration agenda has involved significant military support, including 8,500 troops at the U.S.-Mexico border and 5,000 in Los Angeles.

This latest mobilization comes a day after the Pentagon confirmed that nearly 70 Florida National Guard members were deployed to provide security at the Everglades migrant facility dubbed “Alligator Alcatraz.”
