Ripley, West Virginia — A West Virginia woman has been arrested after authorities say she made online statements encouraging violence against President Donald Trump, prompting an investigation by local law enforcement.

According to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, Morgan L. Morrow, 39, of Ripley, was taken into custody Sunday and charged with one count of threats of terroristic acts. Sheriff Ross Mellinger said deputies became aware of a social media post believed to be aimed at recruiting others to carry out an assassination. The criminal complaint states the threat was directed at an unidentified public official and was later determined to reference the president.

Investigators allege the post originated from a public TikTok account belonging to Morrow, who was employed as a librarian at the Jackson County Public Library. The post reportedly included language suggesting a sniper with a terminal illness could be used to carry out the act. Authorities said the wording and context were interpreted as encouraging others to commit violence, regardless of whether Morrow intended to do so herself.

Deputies responded to Morrow’s residence, detained her, and transported her to the sheriff’s department for questioning. Sheriff Mellinger said threatening statements toward public officials violate West Virginia law and emphasized the case is not politically motivated.

Following the arrest, the Jackson County Public Library said it is handling the matter internally, adding that the alleged comments do not reflect the organization’s values. The investigation remains ongoing.
