CHICAGO, Ill. — A 19-year-old man was fatally shot Saturday evening when gunfire erupted outside a family gender reveal party in the Auburn Gresham neighborhood on the city’s South Side, police said.

Michael Rounds Jr. was inside a home around 5 p.m. in the 7700 block of South Racine Avenue when someone in a passing vehicle opened fire. Bullets shattered a window and struck Rounds in the head. He was pronounced dead at the scene, officials said.

Police reports indicate that Rounds’ sister told responding officers a blue car initially pulled up and someone asked, “What are you doing on my block?” The vehicle reportedly returned moments later and fired multiple shots into the residence as the party was winding down.

Investigators recovered about 20 shell casings, including .45-caliber and 9-millimeter cartridges, from the scene. Authorities initially believed there may have been a second shooting victim, but it was later determined Rounds’ sister injured her foot on broken glass.

No arrests have been announced. Rounds was among at least six homicide victims reported in Chicago over the weekend, police said.
