The Reform Party of the United States and its New York affiliate have endorsed independent candidate Joseph Hernandez in the 2025 New York City mayoral race. The endorsements, announced September 7, praised Hernandez’s focus on transparency, fiscal responsibility, and political reform.

The Reform Party of New York highlighted Hernandez’s proposals to convert vacant office buildings into housing and expand ranked-choice voting to general elections, calling him “a true American success story.” National Reform Party Chair Nicholas Hensley echoed the support, citing Hernandez’s record on government accountability and practical solutions.

Hernandez, a biotech entrepreneur, immigrated to the United States from Cuba as a child after his father’s release from political imprisonment. His campaign emphasizes restoring public trust, addressing affordability, and improving public safety. He previously founded several healthcare companies, including Blue Water Venture Partners LLC.

The party contrasted Hernandez’s refugee and entrepreneurial background with what it described as “some of the weakest choices in recent history” among other mayoral candidates. Hernandez accepted the endorsements September 8, saying he was honored to have the support of a movement dedicated to putting “people before politics.”

He is running on the Quality of Life ballot line against incumbent Mayor Eric Adams, former Gov. Andrew Cuomo, and other independents. The general election is November 4.
