Philadelphia, Pennsylvania — Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner said Tuesday that President Donald Trump’s planned White House ballroom should eventually be demolished, using deliberately provocative language during a ceremony marking the city’s history of slavery.

Speaking at the President’s House site at Independence Mall, Krasner said he wanted a piece of the ballroom as a future paperweight after “we all blow it up.” He then clarified that he was referring to an “official ceremony” in which the structure would be dismantled and pieces sold to recover taxpayer money. Krasner made the remarks while criticizing Trump’s handling of historical exhibits and recent changes at the Philadelphia slavery memorial. He said the original interpretive panels would eventually return and predicted that Trump’s ballroom and the renaming of the Kennedy Center would not endure.

The comments drew applause from some attendees but criticism from Trump supporters and local conservative figures, who accused Krasner of using inflammatory rhetoric.

The remarks did not amount to a threat against Trump personally, and Krasner explicitly framed the proposed destruction as a future government-sanctioned demolition of the structure itself.

The episode reflects the increasingly combative political rhetoric surrounding Trump’s cultural and historical initiatives, including his effort to reshape federal commemorations and public institutions.
