Oklahoma Superintendent of Public Instruction Ryan Walters unveiled a new “America First” teacher qualification test, developed with PragerU, promising it would prevent “woke” educators from entering classrooms. But critics note the test cannot be failed — even if every answer is wrong.
The 34-question multiple-choice exam requires participants to keep guessing until they select the correct response. Upon completion, all users receive a “Certificate of Completion.” Walters has said he wants to mandate the test for teachers coming from out of state, portraying it as a safeguard against liberal influence.
To access the test, participants must register through PragerU’s website, providing personal information such as mailing address, phone number, and email. Users report receiving promotional emails soon after signing up. Walters also recorded a promotional video with PragerU CEO Marissa Streit, in which both criticized teachers’ unions and accused critics of advancing a political agenda.
The initiative comes as Oklahoma faces a teacher shortage and lags behind regional pay averages. Walters has promoted PragerU content in classrooms before, drawing criticism from education advocates. Opponents argue that relying on outside groups for official state testing injects politics into public schools.
