ST. PAUL, Minnesota — MyPillow CEO and longtime Trump ally Mike Lindell has taken the first formal step toward running for governor, registering with Minnesota officials to raise campaign funds for a potential 2026 bid. Lindell told MPR News he is “98 percent sure” he will enter the race and plans to announce his decision on December 11, according to the Star Tribune.
Lindell would join a crowded Republican field seeking to unseat Democratic Gov. Tim Walz, who is finishing his second term. More than a dozen GOP candidates have declared so far, including House Speaker Lisa Demuth, state Rep. Kristin Robbins, and high-profile Twin Cities attorney Chris Madel.
Lindell has spent recent years navigating legal and financial setbacks tied to his claims of widespread 2020 election fraud. He recently lost a $2.3 million defamation suit and was ordered to pay a $5 million reward connected to a failed data challenge at his 2021 “cyber symposium.”
The announcement comes amid escalating tensions between President Trump and Walz. Trump has vowed to focus federal immigration crackdowns on Minnesota while making inflammatory statements about Somali Americans in the state. Walz, in turn, has questioned Trump’s physical and mental fitness, prompting the president to publicly release MRI results.
