BOSTON, MA — A Massachusetts physician already facing multiple sexual assault allegations has been indicted on dozens of additional charges, significantly expanding a case that now involves more than 30 alleged victims.

Prosecutors say Dr. Derrick Todd, a 52-year-old rheumatologist who previously practiced at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Faulkner Hospital, now faces 81 new charges following a Suffolk County grand jury indictment. According to District Attorney Kevin Hayden, the charges involve 22 additional victims between the ages of 17 and 56.

The new counts include 21 charges of rape, 59 counts of indecent assault and battery, and one count of assault with intent to rape. Authorities allege the incidents occurred between 2017 and 2023 at multiple Boston-area medical facilities.

Todd had already been indicted in Middlesex County on earlier charges involving 11 victims. Prosecutors allege he performed unnecessary and prolonged pelvic and breast exams and conducted procedures outside accepted medical standards.

Todd has pleaded not guilty in prior cases, and his attorneys said the new allegations remain unproven, adding they plan to contest the charges in court.

In addition to the criminal cases, more than 270 former patients have joined a civil lawsuit against Todd and affiliated institutions. The allegations have also prompted calls for new state laws requiring chaperones during sensitive medical exams.
