NEW YORK, New York — Jack Schlossberg, the grandson of former President John F. Kennedy, announced Tuesday that he will run for New York’s 12th Congressional District, seeking to succeed retiring Representative Jerrold Nadler. In an email and Instagram post to supporters, Schlossberg framed his campaign as a generational call to leadership, saying Democrats must retake the House to address corruption, cost of living, and “abuses by President Donald Trump.”

The 32-year-old Yale and Harvard Law graduate has cultivated a large online following, with more than 830,000 TikTok followers and 172,000 on X. His campaign will emphasize grassroots outreach, relying heavily on social media videos and a “New” campaign theme to engage younger voters across Manhattan’s Upper West Side, Upper East Side, and Midtown.

In a campaign video, Schlossberg said the district deserves a representative who can “harness the creativity, energy, and drive of this district and translate that into political power in Washington.” He enters a crowded Democratic primary alongside Micah Lasher, Alex Bores, Jami Floyd, and Liam Elkind. The race follows Nadler’s September retirement announcement, in which he urged a younger generation to take the reins. Schlossberg, who has publicly criticized his cousin, Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., represents a continuation of the Kennedy family’s enduring political legacy in national politics.
