West Branch, Iowa — An Iowa nursing home employee accused of stealing opioid pain medication from residents has agreed to surrender her nursing license following a criminal case and disciplinary action by state regulators.

According to the Iowa Board of Nursing, Tanya Lynn Jordan worked at Crestview Specialty Care in West Branch from February through April 2024. Regulators allege she signed out opioid medications, including hydrocodone, for patients but kept the drugs for herself while falsely documenting that they had been administered.

Jordan was initially charged with felony prohibited acts involving controlled substances and tampering with records. She later pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor records charge and was sentenced to 10 days in jail and two years of probation.

The Iowa Department of Inspections, Appeals, and Licensing separately concluded that Jordan committed dependent adult abuse while employed at the facility. State records do not specify whether that finding was directly related to the narcotics allegations.

In September 2025, the Board of Nursing suspended Jordan’s license on an emergency basis. Under a recent settlement, she voluntarily surrendered her license but may apply for reinstatement in one year.

The board also announced sanctions against several other Iowa nurses for violations ranging from drug diversion to patient confidentiality breaches.
