St. Paul, Minnesota — Hope Walz, the daughter of Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, used a Christmas message on social media to sharply criticize the Trump administration and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, saying federal agents have “terrorized” communities in the state. In a TikTok video posted during the holiday, Walz said she was holding close those affected by immigration enforcement, as well as unhoused people and others facing hardship.

Walz has increasingly used social media to speak out following the Trump administration’s expanded ICE operations in Minnesota earlier this month. She framed her comments as an expression of solidarity with immigrants and vulnerable residents, while also reflecting on what she described as a difficult year for many in the community.

Her remarks come amid heightened tensions between the White House and Minnesota officials over immigration enforcement and the state’s Somali population. Last month, President Donald Trump ended certain legal protections for Somalis and accused Minnesota of being a center for fraud and criminal activity. Gov. Walz responded by urging the administration to remove criminals while maintaining dignity and respect for immigrants and refugees.

Federal officials, including border czar Tom Homan, have defended the increased ICE presence around Minneapolis and St. Paul, citing criminal investigations and a major federal fraud case involving misuse of government funds. Local leaders have pushed back, however, including Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara, who condemned an ICE arrest caught on video that showed agents dragging a woman across an icy street.
