Manhattan, New York — Attorney George Conway is actively considering a run for Congress in New York’s 12th Congressional District, according to a source familiar with the discussions, setting up what could become one of the most high-profile Democratic primaries of 2026. The seat opened after longtime Rep. Jerry Nadler announced he would not seek reelection, prompting a wave of interest from prominent contenders.
The district, which spans much of Manhattan’s east and west sides, is already drawing attention nationwide. Earlier this week, Jack Schlossberg — grandson of former President John F. Kennedy — formally entered the race. Conway declined to comment on whether he will run, but multiple Democratic operatives say he has held conversations with potential advisers.
Conway was once a prominent figure in conservative legal circles and was married to Kellyanne Conway, who managed President Trump’s 2016 campaign before serving in the White House. After breaking with Trump, George Conway became one of the most outspoken critics of the administration and frequently appeared on cable news offering legal analysis.
Though registered as an independent, Conway has aligned with Democrats in recent years. He contributed to President Joe Biden’s reelection campaign and later endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris.
With Nadler’s retirement and several high-visibility candidates eyeing the seat, the primary is expected to be one of the most competitive and closely covered House races in the country.
