Minneapolis, Minnesota Federal investigators are examining whether the widow of Renee Nicole Good impeded an ICE officer moments before her wife was fatally shot during an immigration enforcement operation, according to sources familiar with the inquiry. The shooting, carried out by ICE officer Jonathan Ross, has sparked protests, political backlash, and growing scrutiny of federal enforcement tactics.

Sources told NBC News that the investigation has increasingly focused on Becca Good, including whether her actions immediately before the shooting could constitute interference with a federal officer. Investigators are also reviewing her alleged connections to activist groups. At the same time, the inquiry has focused less on Ross’ conduct when he fired into Renee Good’s vehicle.

Becca Good’s attorney, Antonio Romanucci, said there has been no indication she is the subject of a federal investigation. The Justice Department declined to comment. Officials are also reviewing whether Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey impeded federal immigration enforcement through public statements critical of ICE, a claim both Democrats have called politically motivated.

The shooting has intensified concerns over accountability. Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche said there is currently no basis for a civil rights investigation into Ross, while Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem said the officer acted within his training. Six federal prosecutors in Minneapolis resigned this week, citing concerns about the direction of the investigation.

Local officials, including Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty, are pursuing a parallel review, arguing transparency and accountability are lacking at the federal level.
