The FBI has revised its account of an Oct. 19 raid in Wilder, Idaho, following claims that children were zip-tied during the operation. Initially, the agency stated reports of zip-tied or rubber-bullet-hit children were “completely false.” Less than an hour later, however, the statement was modified to say no “young” children were zip-tied or struck, prompting renewed scrutiny.

The raid, which involved around 200 law enforcement officers from local, state, and federal agencies, targeted an alleged illegal horserace gambling ring at La Catedral Arena. The FBI later announced five arrests related to the operation, while Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) reported detaining 105 people for immigration violations.

Advocacy groups and witnesses criticized what they described as “military-style tactics,” claiming law enforcement detained everyone present, including minors. Canyon County Sheriff Kieran Donahue and Caldwell Police Chief Rex Ingram disputed DHS’s account crediting ICE with leading the raid, calling it “a serious misrepresentation of the facts.”

KIVI-TV reported that the FBI’s clarification followed its inquiry with a photo allegedly showing a 14-year-old in zip ties. DHS officials maintain ICE did not restrain or arrest any children.
