ATLANTA — FBI agents executed a court-authorized search warrant Wednesday at the Fulton County elections office in Union City, just south of Atlanta, according to an agency spokesperson. The FBI confirmed the action but declined to provide details, citing an ongoing investigation.
The search comes amid renewed federal scrutiny of Georgia’s handling of the 2020 election, which President Donald Trump has repeatedly claimed was stolen despite courts and election officials finding no evidence of widespread fraud. Fulton County, where Trump lost narrowly, has been a focal point of those claims.
The Justice Department has recently sought access to 2020 election records held by the county, filing a federal lawsuit against the county court clerk after officials said the records were sealed under state law and could not be released without a court order. Conservative members of Georgia’s State Election Board have also pushed to reopen inquiries into Fulton County’s election administration.
Fulton County officials said they were not immediately able to comment on the search. The Justice Department likewise declined immediate comment.
