LOS ANGELES, CA — Federal agents were allegedly seen wearing Halloween masks while driving from a Department of Homeland Security (DHS) operational site at the Port of Los Angeles this week, prompting backlash from local community patrol groups.
Members of the Harbor Area Peace Patrol, a volunteer organization that monitors immigration enforcement activity, said two agents leaving Terminal Island Tuesday morning slowed down and posed for cameras — one wearing a “Chucky” mask and another wearing a “Momo” mask. “They rolled down the window and stared directly into my camera,” said a volunteer identified as Phoebe. “It just reaffirmed that they really have fun terrorizing our communities.”
L.A. TACO first reported the story and said it received a brief email from DHS Assistant Secretary for Public Affairs Tricia McLaughlin stating only: “Happy Halloween!” DHS and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) have not issued formal comments.
Volunteers claim the same vehicle has been linked to multiple immigration raids across Los Angeles County, including one in Van Nuys that same day. Advocates argue the use of masks symbolizes intimidation, though there is no indication they were worn during enforcement actions.
The footage and reports have fueled criticism of federal conduct during Trump-era immigration operations in Southern California.
