A Chicago man has been charged after allegedly sending threats targeting the U.S. Secret Service and federal officials, according to court documents unsealed this week.

Federal prosecutors say 29-year-old Michael Kovco sent multiple threatening messages through the official White House website, including statements about plans to “shoot up” a Secret Service office and target an agent’s family. Authorities allege the messages were sent shortly after agents visited his home regarding an earlier threat.

According to the complaint, Kovco had previously sent a message threatening President Donald Trump and a member of his family. Investigators said the communications were transmitted across state lines, leading to federal charges of making threats in interstate commerce.

The US Secret Service responded to the situation and worked with federal prosecutors in the Northern District of Illinois to bring charges. Officials emphasized that threats against public officials and law enforcement are treated as serious federal offenses.

Kovco was arrested last week and is scheduled to appear in federal court for a detention hearing as the case proceeds.

Authorities continue to investigate the matter, and no additional details about motive have been released.
