CHICAGO, Illinois — Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officials have warned agents in Chicago to “exercise extreme caution” following reports that the Latin Kings gang has issued a “shoot on sight” order against officers participating in immigration operations. The internal alert, obtained by NewsNation, urged federal personnel to maintain “heightened situational awareness” amid growing violence tied to enforcement activity.

The warning follows an incident in the city’s Little Village neighborhood on Saturday, where shots were reportedly fired at federal agents and a group threw bricks and a paint can at a Border Patrol vehicle, according to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). A DHS spokesperson declined to discuss the reported threat but said law enforcement has faced “an 8,000% increase in death threats” during recent operations.

Operation Midway Blitz, a federal crackdown launched two months ago under the Trump administration, has drawn intense opposition from local residents. Protesters have confronted heavily armed agents, leading to heightened tensions. U.S. District Judge Sara Ellis recently imposed restrictions on agents’ use of force after finding a Border Patrol official misled the court about protester threats.
