Brooklyn, New York — A Brooklyn daycare teacher has been charged with sexually abusing multiple young students at a Bushwick childcare center, according to prosecutors.
Devante Brown, 30, was arrested Tuesday by the NYPD’s Brooklyn Child Abuse Squad. The Brooklyn District Attorney’s Office alleges that Brown abused four girls — ages 5, 6 and 9 — over a period of approximately 18 months while working at The Learning Factory on Evergreen Avenue.
Prosecutors say Brown allegedly touched the children’s intimate body parts both over and under their clothing while inside the daycare facility. In at least one instance, authorities allege the abuse occurred during an outing at Brooklyn Bridge Park. Brown is also accused of threatening at least one child to prevent her from reporting the alleged conduct.
The alleged incidents came to light last summer when the children informed their parents, who contacted law enforcement. Brown was charged in Brooklyn Supreme Court with multiple counts of first- and second-degree sexual abuse, forcible touching and endangering the welfare of a child. He was ordered held on bail and is scheduled to return to court March 27.
Prosecutors said the case remains under investigation.
