NEW YORK, N.Y. — The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) announced the creation of a “Mamdani Monitor” to track antisemitism within the incoming administration of New York City Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani. The ADL said it will evaluate Mamdani’s appointees, funding decisions, and public remarks to assess their alignment with anti-Israel or antisemitic rhetoric.
ADL CEO Jonathan Greenblatt said the organization is “deeply concerned” about Mamdani’s past comments, accusing him of promoting “antisemitic narratives” and showing “intense animosity toward the Jewish state.” Greenblatt said the initiative will include a hotline for New Yorkers to report antisemitic incidents linked to the administration.
Mamdani, 34, a Democratic socialist and Queens assemblyman, won Tuesday’s mayoral election after defeating former Gov. Andrew Cuomo and Republican Curtis Sliwa. While he has pledged to combat antisemitism, critics cite his use of the phrase “globalize the intifada” and his support for the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) movement.
The New York Board of Rabbis and other Jewish groups issued a joint statement urging Mamdani to govern with “humility and inclusivity,” while pledging to confront rising antisemitism across the city.
