LAWRENCEVILLE, New Jersey — Thirty-one women have filed a civil lawsuit accusing former Mercer County OB-GYN Bruce Pierce of sexually abusing patients during examinations and alleging his longtime employer failed to stop him.
The complaint, filed Wednesday in New Jersey Superior Court, describes more than a decade of allegedly unnecessary, painful and sexually inappropriate examinations at Delaware Valley OBGYN. Several plaintiffs had trusted Pierce as their doctor for years, including during pregnancies and childbirth.
The lawsuit alleges patients or others reported concerns to the practice at least eight times beginning in 2012. In two alleged incidents, medical chaperones were reportedly present. The women accuse the clinic of failing to properly investigate complaints, supervise Pierce, enforce abuse-prevention policies or report him to authorities.
Pierce’s medical license was suspended in 2024 after the New Jersey Board of Medical Examiners found credible testimony that he had sexually exploited two longtime patients during examinations. The board unanimously concluded that allowing him to continue practicing posed a danger to the public.
The lawsuit includes claims of assault, medical malpractice, invasion of privacy, discrimination and intentional infliction of emotional distress. Some women said the alleged abuse left them fearful of doctors and unwilling to undergo routine gynecological screenings.
Pierce and Delaware Valley OBGYN had not publicly responded to the new allegations. No criminal charges have been announced.
