Republican Presidential candidate Ron DeSantis strongly dismissed the idea of becoming Nikki Haley’s running mate in a recent interview with Fox News’ Neil Cavuto. Emphasizing his commitment to either win the presidency or continue as Florida’s governor, DeSantis stated, “I am not going to accept that under any circumstances. I would much rather do my final two years as governor, 2025 and 26, than be vice president.”
This statement came in response to Haley’s earlier remarks where she left open the possibility of considering DeSantis for vice president in her campaign. Haley, a former United Nations ambassador, expressed her focus on defeating GOP front-runner, former President Trump. DeSantis criticized Haley for not ruling out the option of being Trump’s running mate, despite her appeal to Democrat-leaning voters and donors.
DeSantis questioned Haley’s reluctance to give a direct answer about her vice presidential aspirations, stating, “So the question is, why can’t she just give a straight answer? Either yes, you would accept, or no, you would not.” He concluded by reaffirming his own stance: “I’ve said definitively, no, that’s not what I’m running for and we’re in it to win it.”
DeSantis and Haley are expected to face off in a debate on January 10, ahead of the Iowa caucuses.
